WCDEA
The Whatcom County Dressage and Eventing Association is the first chapter of
Equestrian’s Institute, founded in 1983 at a kitchen table by dressage
enthusiasts. A few years ago we expanded to include our dedicated eventing
friends and WCDA became WCDEA. It has been a very successful partnership and our
volunteers continue to expand our shows, clinics and events to give Whatcom
County riders (and anyone else interested no matter where they live!)
opportunities to further our riding skills and education. We are a very active
organization that knows how to have a good time working together and with our
horses. One of our major projects is to raise funds to improve Sunset Equestrian
Park (a Whatcom County Park) located in Blaine to make it a more suitable
equestrian facility for all horse disciplines. Through our volunteer labor and
generous cash donations we have been able to install an all weather outdoor sand
arena and improve our cross country course to a wide variety of jumps.
This year the club produced a 2008 calendar made up of beautiful, donated
photographs of our local horses and riders. We had photos of horses performing
reining, jumping, dressage, mares and foals, and trail riders to name a few. The
project has been a smashing success and we are already planning our 2009
calendar. To learn more about this project, please go to the website
http://www.wcdea.org and click on the
Calendars button. Money raised from the sale of these calendars goes to
improvements at Sunset Equestrian Park.
We invite any and all dressage, eventing or all around horse enthusiasts to join
our club. We hold monthly meetings (usually the 3rd Thursday of every month) and
have guests speakers on topics of interest. We hold three dressage schooling
shows a year plus at least two eventing clinics or shows. For more information
on how to join or about our club in general, please visit our website at
http://www.wcdea.org. The website contact is
